Write to Exhale
Hello Dear One,
How was November for you? Really?
At the end of each month, I write lists of all the little joys it contained and reflect on how far I’ve come. The process always feels good, as (even if it seems there is little to be proud of) daily action mounts up. We’ve always done more than we give ourselves credit for and yes, doing can be making others laugh, getting to work on time or going for lovely walks. One of mine is simply being kind to myself. We don’t have to have won a Nobel Peace Prize.
However, there is an air of uncertainty at the moment in the collective world and – if we choose to let it in – fear. When I see myself in the grip of this I take a step back, breathe deep and I write.
This letter is an invitation to take a deep breath and get it all out on the page: everything you’re worried about, frustrated over, annoyed at, deeply hurt by. Everything that worries or scares you. It doesn’t mean you have to move on or move through whatever it is. What writing does gift us with is distance: an ability to step back from where we are and see things more clearly.
And breeeeeeeeeeeeathe.
Feel better?
Writing like this helps us identify what’s true and what’s conjecture. It’s then our choice, whether we let our minds run away with fears and worries, or give our focus to something else. Not that I’m saying it’s easy. Rather, it’s a practice, and one I’m never done with, I get frustrated when I find myself in the loop of it. It might not be easy to unhook ourselves from beliefs, fears and false narratives, but it is possible.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
