Hello Dear One,
I have a confession to make. A few months ago, I wrote to you about keeping all technology in a separate room at night, as I wasn’t winding down properly. I haven’t stuck to my promise. Instead of snapping into judgement, I examined why.
If you’re anything like me, you might, at this point in 2021, be exhausted. It’s easy to reach for mindless entertainment, like a phone, as a way to decompress. However, I value a period where you slowly relax, instead of expecting it to happen all at once.
It got me thinking about winding down healthily, so I can enjoy a real break over Christmas. This means not getting everything I wanted to do done – not a comfortable feeling. However, I am only one human being, with one human being’s capacity. You are too. One lesson I learnt after burning out a few years ago is that things can and will wait; it’s a lot more dramatic when you have no choice but to let them.
This week’s letter is an invitation to loosen the reins, to let yourself purposely set tasks down and intentionally leave threads untied. It can also include winding down socially. No rule says you have to go to everything, and the world will not end if you take time to rest and sleep. Although particularly apt for many (but not all) at this time of year you can use the techniques whenever they might apply.
I hope it helps. Personally, thinking about everything I’ve already achieved helps me feel more at peace with hitting pause. Yes critical, pushy voice: it’s enough for now.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
How would it feel if you were supported and cheered on as you sat down with a blank page? And had guided prompts designed to relieve stress, help you connect to your inner voice, build self-compassion and more?
My new audio bundles are a series of mini-workshops available with and without music, which you can do anytime, anywhere. Yours forever when you purchase, repeat them as many times as you like - they’re also an ideal gift for someone who would benefit from taking time to themselves. WRITE TO REFLECT: New date added!
My signature end of year workshop is bigger and better than ever. Join me for two hours of honouring where you’ve been, grounding in where you are and setting meaningful intentions around where you want to go.
There are still some tickets for the 30th December AND I have now added a second date of the 6th of January which is open for booking. These are small group sessions (max 15 participants) including an opportunity to share in an intimate setting.
You can also purchase this workshop as a replay only, meaning you can do it at a time of your choice.
