Hello Dear One,
How is November treating you? Here, our mornings are a little longer and our afternoons shorter. Sunset comes a little after 4 pm. Every year I find it difficult, then, somehow, life adjusts.
There can be rushed energy to the final months of the year, especially if it’s been a challenging one. Something about the promise of January 1st is appealing, a moment to reset. The thing is, life is already happening. Yes, winter can be dark and cold. But it also offers a vault of time – space to claim for ourselves.
On Sunday, I went to a beautiful Samhain (the Celtic welcoming of winter) circle where we were invited to conjure our dreams. It's all too easy to feel stuck in the whirligig of everyday life: getting this done or that done, sorting this out then that out. Sometimes it’s all we can manage. But there is a bigger picture, both of what we’ve achieved and what’s possible. The circle reminded me that we have this in our power. We can dream big for our lives. We can set things in motion. We can choose now.
It’s ok if your dreams feel far away. It’s also ok if you don’t think they’d matter to other people. Your dream might be to get a new sofa, to plan a weekend in a cabin, to reconnect with friends. They don’t have to be huge things: just yours.
Sometimes I feel so lost in life, but I do have direction. I set it when I wrote down the things I truly wanted. There are two dreams I’ve focused on for a long time, although the shape of them has changed. It's easy to become frustrated and despondent when it feels like they aren’t taking shape – I do go there, at times. But I also know there is so much to learn on the journey. And I’m getting closer to them, even when it looks like nothing is happening. Even then, I’d rather dream about what’s possible than live in the fear of what’s not.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
