Write to Become Unstuck
Hello Dear One,
I almost didn't write a letter today, because I’m ladling my life into boxes.
Today I leave the city which has been my home for almost twenty years, to take a leap. A leap into the unknown, into building things, into creating. A leap away from disempowerment, towards what I want: a year to write creatively, build Write to Thrive and see what happens.
When someone asked me how I’d feel if I moved back I said ‘Fine, because it’ll be my choice.’
When we have agency, when we actively take control over any element of our circumstances, our mood skyrockets. Now, despite a hectic few weeks, I feel so light. It’s not because everything’s sorted. It’s not because I’m certain of my next steps. It’s because things feel possible. And because I listened to the voice that said: This. Do THIS. The voice that made its way onto the page and started cheerleading a decision I could be so easily be put off.
One of the magic things about writing is that it propels you forward, especially when integrated as a practise. We might think about a situation again and again, but when we see it on the page - unmoving - it becomes more frustrating. Your words are, in so many senses, catalysts for change.
I hope it helps.
What matters to me, as well as enjoying the present, is moving beyond the stuck feeling – in any direction that helps me evolve. Or, as Joseph Campbell said, follow your bliss. Choose great things for your life. Now, I’m off to finish packing.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
PS: I made a playlist for my workshop last week which I thought you might enjoy (also excellent for the bath). If you haven’t yet take time to reflect on how far you’ve come.
AND, as always, I’d love it if you liked, commented on or shared the letter. You can also buy me a coffee on Ko-fi. Gracias!
