Write For Negative Thought Loops
Hello Dear One,
Do you ever find yourself in the grip of a negative thought pattern that circles around and around? I do. Sometimes I feel like I’m addicted to them.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: if nothing changes nothing changes.
When I over-identify with my negative thoughts and believe them over kinder and more hopeful alternatives, I help my brain expand an old pathway: one where I’m not good enough.
This weekend I wrote out my current loop, and then a new one. Instead of believing the thought, I wrote I love you so much and did something silly – yodelled, actually yodelled – to interrupt what felt like a heavy and damaging belief.
What you choose for your new circuit needs to be kind and believable. If you’re worried about money telling yourself you’re about to become a millionaire will seem ridiculous, but repeating in this moment I have all that I need might calm your nervous system. And open yourself to doing something fun. Sing when you notice the thought, or stamp your feet. Experiment.
Finally don’t label yourself. You’re not ‘a worrier’ – everyone worries. You’re not ‘negative’ you’re just in a challenging loop.
There is a way out, so take it. Make it light. Make it lovely.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
