Hello Dear One,
How are you?
Take a second. Breathe.
Again.
Slower. Deeper.
Put a hand on your heart. How’s your mind? Your body? Your heart?
I’m healthy, excited, worried and scared. I take this as a loving reminder that we experience more than one emotion at a time. And that’s ok.
Right now they repeat the word ‘crisis’ on the news and I wonder why I’m watching it when all it does is alert me to other disturbing things I can do little or nothing about. Turning it off is something I can do. I learnt, in lockdown, to get my feet in the sand, watch my dog run towards me like the clappers and listen to the birds. To focus on what is real, in this moment.
When things feel out of control it’s easy to spiral into fear, negativity and worry. Natural even. Our brains are keen to scan for threats, lock onto them and instruct us to prepare. It’s also possible to choose something different.
An exercise I return to is this one, which brings me back to what is within my power.
I hope it helps. A thought I find (perhaps oddly) comforting is that none of us ever really know what’s coming. It’s the decisions we make day-to-day to be in the now that make a difference. And bring us peace.
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
