My love,
One of my favourite rituals, to do and teach, involves looking back on the year.
I know how easy is to run into the new year without taking the time to honour yourself, especially tempting when your year hasn’t been the one you wanted, you’re feeling hopeless about the world or you’re plain tired.
And, the process (underpinned by self-compassion) is uplifting, encouraging and fills our hearts. Some have even called it life-changing.
Here’s a snapshot of lessons, treasures and reflections from 2023.
Biggest lesson…
surrender. I’ve been so attached to how things ‘should’ go! At the root is a lack of trust, in myself and life. Surrender is a lesson I learn again and again. If you’re in this to ask: what would happen if I let go?
Biggest challenge…
loneliness. At times building a business and being single has felt incredibly lonely.
Biggest blessing…
my friends and family. This year I watched my nieces and nephew learn and grow, had quality time with those I love most and made new friends in unexpected places.
Biggest leap of faith…
there have been a few! Investing in training with four of the most incredible coaches is the biggest. It took guts, courage and a lot of self-belief to start a new certification in September and the depth of learning has been so rich. I can’t wait to see what it brings to clients, and me, in 2024.
Biggest mistake…
not making fun and adventure more of a priority. I want to have more fun, and that means planning, creating space and investing in it.
Biggest Achievement…
being more me. For so many years I was so concerned with what people thought about me that I twisted and contorted myself into someone I thought they wanted. This year, more than ever, I’m more and more myself.
In the words of Brené Brown:
“Fitting in is about assessing a situation and becoming who you need to be to be accepted. Belonging, on the other hand, doesn’t require us to change who we are; it requires us to be who we are.”
Thanks for being here and being you.
All love,
Jo
